Death Trek (2012)This may be low budget movie, but it sure does deliver! For anyone that is a supposed movie buff, horror fanatic, or cult film expert I suggest you check out Death Trek. For all those films that are released thinking they are owed cult status for following all the rules, this film shows us how it’s actually meant to be done.
This film has been written, directed and produced by those that deserve to be recognised. It is not only a film, it’s a piece of art. There are so many parts of this film that jump out at you as being stand alone pieces which should be recognised in their own right. I don't want to ruin the film for anyone that wants to see it... and you should, but I would say it's a mix between The Blair Witch Project and Evil Dead. It follows four youngsters embarking on a journey in to the unknown, wanting to imprint their artistic abilities on to a building which omits all that is evil... the Nazis! This place, the historic Nazi sympathiser camp is not a place to vandalise, it is a place to learn from, a place which should be preserved. Will kids never learn? |
If this film stays in the shadows, it's likely to become a cult classic, and I have had the privilege of viewing it. To anyone who read this review I urge you to hunt this film down.
Ok, it’s only 25 minutes long, but any longer and the film would have been ruined. The timings are perfect, the sound is spot on, the layering upon layering of framework creates the most outstanding effect, the time loop within the film is believable and is where the film truly starts hotting up, and the acting itself is taken to the next level. Should the film have been extended to become a full feature length movie, they film makers would have struggled to shock the audience, as it would have become too predictable and repetitive. I love the historical film that's used to tell the story, along with news articles, it doesn't stop the continuous flow, it adds to it. The only criticism I have is the fact we see the murderer, he is no longer the elusive masked mad man... he's the man in a hoody with an axe. If he had been hovering in the distance with this power to send others crazy I would have been happy to draw my own conclusion as to what he looked like. It is likely that I will add to the review as there is so much to take in to consideration... Watch this space! |
